Mini Cooper Fuel Cap Light: Why is it Illuminated?

What does it look like: A vehicle with a fuel cap ejected, or it will say “Check Fuel Cap” on the dashboard.

What color is it: Orange.

What does it mean: The fuel cap light is a critical component of the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system of your Mini Cooper, and it needs to be sealed properly so nothing escapes to the outside air. If the gas cap is damaged or not attached properly to the fuel tank, it may cause issues with the engine’s efficiency, malfunction within the EVAP system, or a fuel leak. One of those problems may be why your fuel cap light is illuminated.

What to do when it comes on: If the light comes on while driving, there is no need to panic. Safely pull your Mini Cooper over and check the cap, and re-secure if necessary. Sometimes the light comes on if the fuel cap is missing, loose or too tight.
