The Mini Hatch/Hardtop made its debut in 2006 with the 2nd generation being produced from 2007 to 2014. The Mini Cooper company is itself own by the Bavarian Auto Works, yet is a distinctly British car. The Mini has become a beloved little economy vehicle and its owners are very proud of them, however, they do experience mechanical issues occasionally.
Some Mini Cooper owners have experienced issues with the heated seats on their Hatch/Hardtops. They have noticed that the seat sometimes fails to heat when the heating switch has been turned on, or that it operates inconsistently. After attempting to try other settings, the problems persists. In each case the indicator lights are on seeming to suggest that the heat should be on as well. This problem has occurred when the temperatures are very cold outside which obviously necessitates the use of the heated seat function. It has been noted by some drivers that the seats may take almost a full hour to generate any heat.
It may be possible that this is occurring as a result of a low battery which is failing to provide enough electricity to the seat warmers. As well, it may be due to an electrical overload. If the driver also is using the fan, defrosters, heater, stereo and any combination of these things, it may be causing a drain on the battery. It may also be a sign of a more serious electrical problem and should be looked into further.
If you have had problems with the heated seats of your 2nd generation Mini Cooper Hatch/Hardtop, be sure to take it in to a nearby German import shop for a complete diagnosis and estimate for repair.
